Edgar Shults Jr. graduated from DHS in 1955.Upon graduation, Shults enlisted in the Naval Air Reserve prior to graduating DHS in 1954 and served until 1965.In 1948, he became involved in Boy Scouts of America and became a Scout Master in 1952. Edgar served as Scout Master until 2010, making him one of the longest serving Scout Masters in Tennessee. In the time he served, Shults presented 217 of his young men with their rank of Eagle Scout. He took his troops to Camp Mack Morris and several high-adventure camps including Philmont, Sea Base, Ace Adventure, High Adventure Canoe Base, and See Tennessee.Edgar was one of the founding members of the Parks and Recreation Board for the City of Dyersburg. The group started the Dyersburg Activity Center at the old Jennie Bell School. He was instrumental in starting the boys and girls basketball league that is currently ongoing to this day and served as President of the PTA at Jennie Bell.Edgar has served as a deacon at Phillips Street Church of Christ in Dyersburg from 1971-1975 and as an elder from 1975-2017. He was also involved with many programs for children and teenagers at the church. Additionally, he was a member of Kiwanis Club for 15 years, serving as Vice President and President.
