‘The Voice of the Trojans’, Charles Dawson graduated from DHS in 1964.Upon graduating DHS, Dawson then graduated the University of Kentucky. He then returned to West Tennessee to work as editor of the Trenton Herald Gazette. While in Trenton, Charles began broadcasting, a career which has spanned for nearly 40 years.Dawson returned to Dyersburg and became sales manager of WASL/WTRO radio. He began broadcasting Dyersburg High School basketball during the 1983-1984 school year. The current school year marks Dawson’s 37th year of play-by-play broadcasts for Trojan sports on the Eagle 97.3 FM and the Eagle 97.3 app. To date, Dawson has provided play by play for over 1,600 Dyersburg High School sporting events.Charles received the AF Bridges Award for Contributor of the Year from the TSSAA. The award is given to individuals in recognition of high ideals of integrity, ethics, and for the examples of citizenship and sportsmanship. He has also been recognized for his contributions to DHS by the school and the City of Dyersburg.Additionally, Dawson has served as Regional Sales Manager for Cable One and Ad Sales and Advertising Director for the State Gazette. He also served as President of the Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber of Commerce.
