Larry Williams graduated Bruce High School in 1965. Upon graduation, Williams began his employment with the United States Postal Service in Davenport, Iowa in June of 1965. In October, he became employed at the General Motors Corporation – Fisher Body Division in Michigan.

In 1966, he was drafted in the United States Army. Williams was a door gunner on a rescue helicopter assigned to the Fifth Special Forces, serving in Vietnam. While in combat, Williams was wounded, and he received the Purple Heart for Valor. He also received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Service Stars), Air (Rifle) Marksman medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Following an honorable discharge, Williams returned to General Motors in 1968, and attended Flint Technical School in Flint, MI. Throughout the rest of his career, Williams held various management positions at GM, including Production Foreman, General Foreman, as well as Training Facilitator and Contract Manager. He retired from General Motors in 2002 following 36 years of employment.

He returned to Dyersburg in 2005. Since his return, Williams became the curator of the Bruce Museum, a Dyer County Election Commissioner, a member of the Board of Directors of the Dyer County Salvation Army, and a church trustee at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

Williams is married to his wife, Patricia, of 48 years. He is also a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
